How one family road trip through Norway became the inspiration behind Wildlings.
The trip that changed everything
Some journeys take you somewhere new.
Others change the way you see the world.
For us, Norway did both.
When we started planning a family road trip through Norway, our goal was simple: spend two weeks exploring one of the most beautiful countries in Europe with our three boys.
We expected spectacular fjords, winding mountain roads and unforgettable hikes.
What we didn't expect was that the journey would become the inspiration for Wildlings.
We realised we weren't planning a holiday.
We were designing a childhood.
As parents, it's easy to focus on logistics.
Which campsite?
How many kilometres today?
What if it rains?
Do we have enough food?
Will the kids get bored?
But somewhere between planning routes, researching campsites and packing the van, something shifted.
We stopped asking:
"Where should we go?"
And started asking:
"What memories do we want our boys to have twenty years from now?"
That question changed everything.
Every destination became a story waiting to happen.
Instead of chasing famous landmarks, we started looking for experiences.
A waterfall where the kids could feel the spray on their faces.
A mountain trail that was challenging enough to create a sense of achievement.
A quiet campsite where we could cook dinner together as the sun disappeared behind the fjords.
A morning where breakfast came with a view that no hotel could ever compete with.
Those moments mattered more than ticking places off a list.
Adventure doesn't have to be extreme.
When people hear the word "adventure," they often imagine climbing mountains or crossing glaciers.
For us, adventure looks different.
It's watching a child build a dam across a small stream.
Learning to light a campfire together.
Spotting reindeer from the roadside.
Jumping into a freezing Norwegian lake simply because everyone else did.
Adventure isn't about danger.
It's about discovery.
Norway reminded us to slow down.
One of the greatest lessons came from doing less.
Some of our favourite days weren't packed with activities.
We stayed longer at places we loved.
We took detours because a road looked interesting.
We stopped whenever the landscape invited us to.
Children aren't in a hurry.
Nature isn't either.
Perhaps we shouldn't be.
The best memories were never planned.
Years from now, our boys probably won't remember exactly how many kilometres we drove.
But they'll remember laughing inside the tent while rain drummed on the roof.
Cooking pancakes outdoors.
Climbing rocks just because they were there.
Watching waterfalls together.
Falling asleep exhausted after a day spent outside.
Those moments don't appear in guidebooks.
Yet they're often the ones that stay with us forever.
That's when Wildlings was born.
Driving through Norway, we realised something.
Many families dream about adventures like this.
But they don't know where to start.
Planning routes.
Choosing campsites.
Packing gear.
Finding child-friendly activities.
It can feel overwhelming.
We wanted to change that.
Not by creating another travel company.
But by building a community that helps families reconnect with nature through simple, meaningful adventures.
Wildlings is our way of sharing what Norway reminded us:
The greatest journeys aren't measured by distance.
They're measured by the memories you create together.

Looking Ahead
This August, we'll be setting off on our own Wildlings journey through Norway once again—this time with a different perspective. Not just as a family on holiday, but as founders learning, exploring and gathering ideas for the adventures we hope to share with other families in the years ahead.
We'll be documenting the trip, testing campsites, discovering hidden gems and collecting stories along the way.
